After that, I met LeeAnn, who had been setting up her Bank of Ireland account on campus, and we came back to my place to get our tix for a trip to the Wicklow Mnts. Once that was set up, and once I had actually called the place to confirm that our tix went thru, I put on P.S. I love You, which as I mentioned before, was filmed in the Wicklow Mnts. I mean, when Lisa and I went to see the movie at Christmas time in 2007 (right before we came for Sean's graduation gift), I literally cried when they showed the scenes of Ireland - and of course I had Lisa next to me whispering "I hate you. I hate you." My cousin doesnt hate me, but we both knew that what we were watching on the big screen was what I'd be seeing in just a few months time.
Well, I'm excited about going there. So far, sure I'm living in Ireland, but I'm in a city and living in a neighborhood outside the city. When you think of "Ireland", you're not thinking trams, busses, and businesses. You think of rolling green hills and sparkling water reflecting mountains and maybe a thatched roof cottage. So I'm excited, now that I'm living here, to actually get to go see the scenic Ireland!
But first I have to go to class tomorrow.
I finished off the night by going back to Bewley's for dinner. Yea, it may be a little odd that we went for lunch then dinner, but we noticed that they had a 3 course meal, including coffee or tea for 15e. That's really good in Dublin!! So I got bread with 3 types of good and different dips, then a chicken penne pasta, then a brownie and ice cream for dessert. And I had tea for lunch and dinner. They have all different kinds, but they also have their original blend which is fabulous! You throw in a little milk/cream and one sugar and you're good to go!
As far as the choir is concerned, since you were asking about it Mom, it's a pretty big group. Last week it was bigger, probably close to 100 people. Last night was probably about 80. You could separate us into 3 equal number groups between the sopranos, the basses & tenors, and the altos. People in there really seem to know what they are doing. Since the tenors had the smallest group this week, they were the weakest and more timid to sing. I dont mind trying to sing out loud, but it's the darn Latin that throws me off. It's enough to read the words and notes quickly and watch the director's beat. But when I'm trying to figure out what on earth the sound of that word (whatever that word may be) sounds like, it gets more difficult. And I saw the one lady who was not even singing with the altos. She was sitting behind me yesterday. It was like she wasnt even necessarily singing the right note an octave lower. She just picked a note and went up and down as the music went up and down. Ok... And I think about the guys in our family - the men especially (like Dad and U Rob) would be able to sing the Bass part. But I could see how it would be difficult to sing some of the bass notes. They hit notes that I could hit comfortably, then drop down to the "real" bass notes. It's impressive to hear them. Obviously Mozart was going crazy right before he died to be so cruel to men with low voices to have to sing such an incredible range. Again, the men in our fam would be able to do it, seeing as they can sing from bass to alto (and yes, you can hear Uncle Rob singing soprano as well occasionally!) But since I enjoy singing The Messiah so much I think once I get the hang of the Latin this will be really fun. Here is a you tube of the first song in the Requiem. It just gets crazier from there, but it's a cool challenge! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb3bwGb0glQ
I DO hate you, cousin! :) And I mean that in the nicest way possible! I wish I could go with you to the "country" to see the green and the rolling hills! Take lots of pictures---even though, I know they won't even compare with actually being there. Love you, cousin---can't wait to be able to come and see you....things are totally crazy at my work--there are rumors of people being laid-off by Christmas and rumors that we'll be there for another year.....so who knows! So, everything is still up in the air for me, but I'm still hoping to be able to get to Ireland before you come home!
ReplyDeleteOooh, Kerry! I listened to the Requiem, and of course had to hum along! I know I would so much want to sing the notes correctly that I'd probably be singing along with just a La La La (forget about trying the Latin)!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited about your trip to Wicklow. I know you'll enjoy Glendaloch. When we went on our trip on '08, it had just stopped raining long enough for our tour, then started raining again after we got back on the bus. I hope you have some clear weather!
So sad that I missed your phone call!
